Travel to Corazon de Jesus
Corazon de Jesus is a densely populated island in Kuna Yala. It is one of the most westernized parts of the comarca, thus culturally not as interesting as the other parts.
Here Kunas live in concrete houses, wear western clothing and and eat processed foods while watching TV. A visit to Corazon de Jesus makes you understand why the Kuna are so adamant about protecting their culture.
The airstrip here also serves as a gateway to other nearby islands, such as Isla Tigre (one of the most traditional Kuna places) and Nargana. Nargana is linked to Corazon de Jesus by a wooden bridge. It is the home for the only courthouse and police in the region, so you will see quite a lot of policemen. They might ask you to see your passport ? no harm meant, they?re just bored and don?t have much else to do.
What to do in Corazon de Jesus
- You can stay the night in the Naragana Lodge (for $10?$15), which is a clean and modern hotel.
- Take a boat ride to Isla Tigre, one of the most traditional islands in the comarca. It?s beautiful and culturally vibrant. You can spend a night there at the Cabanas Tigre, a wonderful and affordable place (~$10). Kayaking and snorkeling is available too.
Places to eat
- Nali?s Café is the best restaurant in the Naragana island. Great and cheap seafood right on the beach.
- Little unnamed restaurants that serve ?catch of the day? which can be found in many places
