Punta Patino has around 30000 hectares, the largest private reserve in the country. It is owned by ANCON, an organization Panamanian environmentalist nonprofit, and operated by Ancon Expeditions.
It is a place to get to know a large part of the "Costa Darienita", which has a very different feel from the inside. Punta Patino has a wide range of vegetation and wildlife, and offers many amenities.
This area suffered a deforestation of forests by the coconut, timber and livestock that were operating before becoming a nature reserve and has made a significant recovery since it became protected areas.
This reserve supports a wide biodiversity of plants, birds and mammals. Species that are found in the reserve include the capybara, gray foxes, monkeys night, jaguars.
Reptiles as iguanas and alligators are common. The humpback whales and bottle nose dolphins can sometimes be seen in the Gulf of San Miguel. Also a wide variety of bird species are found here including herons and night herons.
