Travel to Changuinola
Changuinola, in the Bocas del Toro Province, is a small town in a Sea of Banana trees. It is a very important place for the banana industry, being home of the Chiquita banana plantations. Changuinola is a useful access point to the Bocas de Toro archipelago.
Even though Changuinola is not a resort town, most tourists would certainly find it multi-faceted and interesting, if they can look beneath its "rough exterior". The city has many little restaurants, shops and small hotels.
What to do in Changuinola
- Check out the long canal that runs through the town. It was originally built to transfer bananas, but since its abandonment, offers a chance for wildlife views and boat rides.
- Go hiking in La Amistad (The Friendship) International Park
- Watch for marsh wildlife in San Pond Sack Wildlife Refuge.
